My name is Scott, and I have some content ideas for you!

In today's content marketing world, you can't just sell and advertise anymore. In recent years:
- Marketing departments became publishing teams.
- Selling became storytelling.
- Consumers became indispensable advocates.
- Content calendars added repurposed content strategies.
- Copy evolved into saying more with less.
- Video became must-watch content.
- Podcasting audiences demanded takeaways and value.
Your story needs to resonate. You reputation needs the right buzz. With all of this happening at once, it's challenging to get involved and win attention.
Blogging Ideas
Blogging can be a powerful marketing engine for a business; just ask Marcus Sheridan. I've been writing blogs for a variety of industries since 2012. Here are some examples.
Sometimes when you want creativity, specific industries can create some roadblocks. Thankfully, there's always a Plan B. In this case, Intelligent Contacts needed to reach high-level healthcare professionals about payment methods and communication solutions.
I created a "blog character" named Communication Flo. She became the Intelligent Contacts expert for B2B questions and answers. By the way, you can also create a character personality to live on your Twitter accounts. Example: Roger Mozbot. |
I've written blogs for a number of clients and industries. Some topics might surprise you - like heartburn.
Granted, I wrote plenty of fact-based, striaght-laced blogs providing Houston Heartburn's audience with important reflux reflections. One day, I decided to get creative with the message and create a heartburn reality show. I'm not sure how watchable that show would be, but they were happy with the humorous spin. |
Occasionally, I get to write my own blogs on creativity, copywriting and content production.
One of my content passions is podcasting, and I've worked as a host, producer, editor and consultant. I love helping people create or improve their current podcasts or provide podcasters with some meaningful guidence on general topics - like interviewing. I've conducted several podcast interviews over the years. I know what it takes to book quality guests and conduct quality interviews. |
Video Ideas
Why read about it when you can watch it? If your business provides multiple services or products, you obviously want your audience to know about them. However, people don't indulge in reading time. So, you have to expand your messaging into other content, like video!
|
In 2011, Realpage wanted to repurpose web copy into engaging video content. They hired me to write video scripts like this one.
In it, they effectively demonstrated how their property management solution optimizes the resident application process. Imagine the difference in watching this versus reading a text version on their website. |
|
To showcase their Kids Teaching Kids healthy eating program, Children's Medical City Hospital recorded interviews and b-roll footage to showcase the success of the program.
They sent me the footage, the interviews and the creative brief. I wrote a script incorporating the best footage and interview clips while narrating the important values of the program. This also demonstrates the success of a message when the target audience serves as the advocates. |
|
I love content challenges that allow me to come up with creative ways to reach a very targeted audience.
In this case, Intelligent Contacts tasked me with writing and producing a video that creatively explained the Speech Analytics component of their contact center solution. I wrote the script. Then I produced the final product using Vyond for the animation and Fiverr for the character voices. |
Audio Ideas
In 2007, I added audio production to my content toolbox. It really has come in handy.
|
I wrote over 200 blogs for the different brands under Nobilis Health. Later, I was tasked with taking that content and infusing it into a podcast.
The content? Much of it was sharing tips on how to take care of your back and take care of your body. I was given free-rein to create audio that would repurpose the messages into something that didn't sound boring. Audio skits like this one achieved that goal. |
|
North Texas Public Broadcasting (KERA 90.1) hired me to develop content, strategies and messaging that would improve their on-air fundraising drives.
Along with new messaging and strategies, I wrote and produced content that engaged listeners. This included writing scripts for NPR personalities like Peter Sagal and Carl Kasell. |
|
I also recorded interviews with donors and turned them into fundraising stories. The results - record setting fundraising numbers and positive feedback from the community. |
I've worked as a podcast producer, host, editor and consultant since 2011. You can see more of my podcasting work at ScottMurrayOnline.com.
